Roles and responsibilities
Dr Noor Yusmiza Yusoff is an Associate Professor at the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences.
His areas of research interest centre on process modeling and simulation as well as process systems engineering. Among his accomplishments are:
• Awarded more than RM550,000 research grants as Project Leaders
• Published four books, and several journal and conference papers
• Presented technical papers at PETRONAS Process Control Forum
• Co-chaired International Conference on Process Engineering and Advanced Materials (ICPEAM 2014) and Process Simulation and Optimization Symposium (PSOS 2014) in collaboration with PETRONAS Group Technical Solutions.
Dr Yus has extensive experience in delivering educational excellence and strengthening industry-relevant research and development performance.
He graduated from Northwestern University, USA with BSc Degree in Chemical Engineering (1997) and subsequently became a member of the American Chemical Engineering Honours Society “Omega Chi Epsilon”. He received his MSc Degree (2001) from the University of Calgary, Canada and obtained a PhD (2010) from the Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), Malaysia after completing a research work on integration of scheduling and real-time optimisation in a large industrial plant.
Prior to joining Heriot-Watt in 2014, Dr Yus was a Senior Lecturer at the Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP). He served UTP as an Associate Head of Chemical Engineering Department in charge of student activities in 2009-2011. In addition, he was tasked with the responsibilities to develop and monitor the UTP Research University Key Performance Indicators while seconded to the Transformation Office in 2011-2012.
His active involvements in extra-curricular activities at Tertiary Institutes of Higher Learning earn him trust in chairing the Malaysia Chem-E Car Competition 2015 after being elected as a Committee Member of the Chemical Engineering Technical Division (CETD) of Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) in 2013 and appointed twice as a Committee Member of IEM Design Competition 2013-2014 and 2014-2015. Finally, he has been an Associate Member of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) since 2009 and a Graduate Member of the Board of Engineers, Malaysia (BEM) since 2002.
