Roles and responsibilities Dr Khalik is an Associate Professor with the Institute of Petroleum Engineering.

Dr Khalik obtained his PhD degree from Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), The Netherlands in 2009. His PhD research was on the phase behavior and kinetics of gas hydrate, specifically on CO2 hydrates. Prior to that, he obtained both his MSc and BEng degrees in Chemical Engineering from Universiti Sains Malaysia. Before joining Heriot-Watt University Malaysia he worked at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS from 2000 and has extensive experience in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses for chemical and petroleum engineering programs.

A firm believer on the holistic approach to life and "healthy body, healthy mind" concept, Dr Khalik is active in squash, middle and long distance sports including marathon, duathlon, triathlon and Ironman 70.3.
