Ibrisam Bin Akbar
Roles and responsibilities

Ibrisam Bin Akbar is Associate Professor with the School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Society.

Research

Ibrisam's research interest is in the application of advanced materials in onshore/offshore construction in particular steel and fibre reinforced polymers in which he supervised research students in the MSc and PhD levels. He has published technical papers in that area in various conferences and journals.

His research portfolio includes receiving grants from the Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) by The Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia and Yayasan Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (YUTP) as the Principal Investigator. He also conducted various consultancy projects with PCSB and the industry especially in the onshore gas plants construction and maintenance.

Ibrisam is a Chartered Engineer (MIMarEST, UK), a graduate member of Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) and Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) and also active with the Malaysian Steel Structures Association (MSSA), Malaysia in the Education Committee.

Biography

Ibrisam received his Bachelor's and Master's degree in Civil Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. He then joined Universiti Putra Malaysia as a Tutor before joining Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP). In 2011, he received his PhD in Civil Engineering (Structures) from The University of Adelaide, Australia.

From 2001 – 2015, he was a Senior Lecturer and the Programme Manager for MSc in Offshore Engineering at the Department of Civil And Environment Engineering, UTP. He was an active researcher under the Deepwater Mission Oriented Research and was constantly engaged in the Steering Committee meetings with the Skill Group 11 (SKG11), which is the civil and pipeline technical group of PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB) for academic and research/consultation collaborations.
