Alison Goligher OBE: Honorary Doctor of Science

Alison Goligher's impressive career began after she gained a postgraduate Master of Engineering in Petroleum Engineering degree from Heriot-Watt University. Following graduation she joined Schlumberger Oilfield Services, working for the company for over 17 years, and rising to become their Vice President and General Manager for Cased Hole Services at Schlumberger’s Wireline headquarters in Paris.

Alison then moved to Shell E&P Europe. Initially she looked after the Corporate Support portfolio based in Rijswijk. She moved on to the position of VP Technical for the Middle East, based in Dubai, and then became VP Production Directorate, taking responsibility for Shell’s operated assets in South East Asia.

Her tremendous commitment to the industry was recognised through an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE), in the 2005 New Year's Honours List, for her services to the oil and gas industry.

Alison and Heriot-Watt University have maintained strong links: the University awarded her an Honorary Degree - in recognition of her commitment to the education of young professionals in the oil and gas industry, particularly young female engineers - and she is currently a board member of the University's Institute of Petroleum Engineering.
