Overview
The Certificate of Higher Education in Engineering (CHEE) is designed to give students insight into and prepare them for a wide range of engineering disciplines from Mechanical to Electrical, Electronic, Automotive, Chemical, Architectural, Civil, Energy and Robotics, Autonomous and Interactive Systems.
Progression
Successful completion of this certificate will see students articulate seamlessly into the second year of any of these more specialist degree programmes that are offered to BEng (Hons) level.

The Certificate of Higher Education in Engineering offers a unique opportunity to study introductory courses in each discipline (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical and Electronic, Architectural, Civil) before deciding to specialise.
Course content
In this first year, all students will:
- Study two courses in Maths for engineers and scientists
- Be introduced to each engineering discipline offered at Heriot-Watt University, Dubai (Electrical and Electronic, Mechanical, Chemical, Architectural and Civil)
- Study either physics (for all degree programmes other than Chemical Engineering) or chemistry (for the Chemical Engineering degree programme)
in preparation for entrance into the second year of one of the engineering degree programmes offered at Heriot-Watt University, Dubai.
Entry requirements
First Year Entry
- GCE A-Level - CCC (or AABB at AS-Level)
- CBSE/Other Indian Boards - 65%.
- American High School Diploma/SABIS - 70% + SAT 1 - 1000 (500 English and 500 Math)
- Tawjihiyya - 80% or Elite/Advance - 75% English, Maths and Chemistry/Physics + EmSAT English 1400, Maths 1200 and 1100 Chemistry/Physics
- International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 24 points (3 HL - including Maths and Chemistry/Physics, and 3 SL)
- BTEC Level 3 Ext Diploma - MMM
- FBISE grade 12 or equivalent - 70%
- Russian/ Kazakhstan (Attestat) - Grades of 5 in every subject + IELTS 6.0
- French Baccalaureate - 13/20 + IELTS 6.0
- Lebanese Baccalaureate - 80% or 13/20 IELTS 6.0
- Foundation year Successful completion of Heriot-Watt University Degree Entry Programme (Engineering) with a CCCC.
- Compulsory subjects to include Mathematics, English and Chemistry/Physics.
