As you embark on your next endeavour, grow in your chosen career and establish yourself as a successful alumni, there will be many opportunities for you to give back and volunteer.
Volunteering can be a rewarding experience while also helping you to stay connected to the University, develop new skills, and enhance your own professional development. By directly contributing, you are making a positive impact on the lives of our current students, inspiring our Heriot-Watt community and contributing to the successful delivery of our strategic goals.
But don’t take our word for it – hear from two Heriot-Watt alumni as they explain why they give back to the University by volunteering their time and expertise.
Here are just some of the ways you can volunteer your time to support our Heriot-Watt community. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss any of these opportunities further.
- Give a guest lecture
- Join an industry advisory board
- Participate in a careers panel discussion
- Represent the alumni community and join the Watt Club Council
Ways to give back
Be a careers mentor
We connect professionals working in a wide variety of industries with current Heriot-Watt students to support their long-term career planning. By participating in our Career Mentoring Programme, you will have an important positive effect on a student’s career and development. For more information on how to get involved in the Career Mentoring Programme, please contact our programme co-ordinator Karen Beattie.
Help with industry placements
We actively work in conjunction with employers and businesses of varying sizes across different sectors to create additional placement opportunities for our students who are looking to enrich their studies in the field. We offer a range of masters level degrees which have credit-bearing industry placements built into the courses to enhance student employability. If you are interested, you can find out more about how you can hire a placement student.
Our Employer Engagement team works closely with industry to help businesses find suitable students with the relevant skillset and knowledge aligned with business needs. Aside from our credit-bearing placement courses, if you are interested in exploring summer internships, part-time roles or graduate opportunities, we want to hear from you. Please get in touch with us at email@example.com.
