New exhibit unveiled at ICE museum Date:

The Chairman of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Scotland museum, Professor Roland Paxton, welcomed Sir William McAlpine, former director of the construction company Sir Robert McAlpine, to Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh campus for the celebratory event.

The exhibit is a locomotive nameplate reading; The Institution of Civil Engineers and was donated to the museum in 2015 by DB Cargo (UK) Limited with the Railway Heritage Designation Advisory Board acting as an intermediary.  The nameplate was previously used on two different locomotives.

The museum is home to a collection of almost 400 items relating to civil engineering many of which have strong local connections including a number of items relating to the Forth Bridges.

The collection is owned by the Scotland Region of The Institution of Civil Engineers and under an agreement between the Region and Heriot-Watt, the collection is on loan to the University. It is displayed on Level 1 of the William Arrol Building with other larger items placed at other locations both inside and at the west end of the William Arrol Building.

Anyone wishing to view the ICE Scotland museum collection are most welcome to visit during normal weekday hours. For further information please contact Professor Roland Paxton.
