You may have noticed Monster, a friendly purple giant, wandering the corridors of the Edinburgh Campus on Friday 6 October. Monster was here to look after visitors to the Monster Confidence event, which saw 220 school pupils visit our newly refurbished James Watt Centre for a fun-filled day of inspirational talks and workshops.
Part of Diversity Month the event was delivered by Stemettes, an award-winning social enterprise working across the UK and Ireland and beyond to inspire and support young women into Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths careers (known collectively as STEM).
School pupils from S4, S5 and S6 participated in career workshops, interview practice and speed mentoring, as well talks from inspirational speakers including Professor Beatrice Pelloni, Head of Mathematical and Computer Sciences. Colleagues and student volunteers from the University joined volunteers from Scottish industry in giving their time and knowledge to provide encouragement.
All of this was delivered with a focus on fun.
Feedback from the participants included:
Thanks for an amazing day! Smiling faces all round! Uddingston Grammar School
