Chemical Engineering PhD student wins Presentation Prize Date:

Alessandro D Calvi, PhD student in Chemical Engineering, has been awarded the SCOT Project Flash Presentation Prize at the 14th International Conference on Carbon Dioxide Utilisation which took place at the University of Sheffield from the 11 – 14 September 2016.

Alessandro is supervised by Dr Susana Garcia, Assistant Professor in the Institute of Mechanical, Process and Energy Engineering (EPS). He is studying the role of using microwaves to regenerate solid sorbents for post-combustion CO2 capture and is a member of the Centre for Innovation in Carbon Capture and Storage (CICCS).

Alessandro said: “The conference was an excellent opportunity to build a network in CO2 utilisation community. I hope that I will have the chance to work with these researchers again in future. Winning this prize is an awesome confidence boost to continue disseminating my research in an impactful way.”

Dr Susana Garcia said: “Alessandro’s prize is a reward for the quality of his research as well as for his knowledge transfer skills. It is very encouraging to see how our students at CICCS get recognised and these networking events are a great opportunity to establish new links and reach broad audiences, which is part of our mission in finding solutions to climate change.”
