The Institute of Petroleum Engineering (IPE) has hosted a delegation of petroleum geoscientists from the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) and Xihua University. The group met with Jingshang Ma, Associate Professor at IPE, and were exposed to a wide range of ongoing research ranging from Carbonate Reservoirs and Intelligent Well Design to Hydrates, Uncertainty Quantification and Digital Core Analysis.

The Chinese visitors also had the chance to hear about research opportunities in the Lyell Centre and to meet with Heriot-Watt’s Assistant Principal for International Development, Professor Ruth Moir, and the University’s Chief Scientist, Professor John Underhill, to whom they presented a woven silk memento to commemorate the visit.

Professor Sebastian Geiger, Director of IPE, said, “It was a great honour to host the delegation for CNOOC and Xihua University and explore opportunities to further strengthen the global outreach of IPE through new and mutually beneficial collaborations in China, which is a key player in the global energy industry”

Heriot-Watt's Chief Scientist, Professor John Underhill, said, "It was a great pleasure to welcome the CNOOC delegation to our Edinburgh campus. The company is a highly-valued scientific partner and strong supporter of Jingshang Ma's research efforts in our world-leading Institute of Petroleum Engineering."
