Businesses in Edinburgh are being urged to capitalise on a rise in Chinese tourism as part of a campaign backed by Heriot-Watt.

The university’s Confucius Institute is sponsoring the China Ready 2018 Conference being held at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre on Thursday, 10 May.

The event will advise business leaders to make the most of on the expected increase in visitor numbers from China. This has been aided with the recent announcement of a direct air link between Edinburgh and Beijing starting this summer.

Professor Ian Baxter, Director of the Confucius Institute commented, “Following on from our support of the national tourism industry conference in Glasgow a couple of weeks ago, the China-Ready conference and our work with both ETAG and the Scottish Tourism Alliance forges links between the University’s China Strategy with wider support for the cultural and economic opportunities in visitors and students coming to Scotland, and industry understanding Chinese visitors and Chinese culture better. There are a multitude of spin-off benefits including enhancing the ‘visitor journey’ for tourists; developing business relationships and opportunities in the industry; applied research opportunities; and also potential employment opportunities for our students.”

The Conference has been organized by Scottish Enterprise’s Edinburgh Tourism Action Group (ETAG), which is the umbrella organization for the tourism sector in Edinburgh.
