Engineering & Management BSc / BSc (Hons)

Programme information

This programme is aimed at those with a desire to study electronics, hardware system design or electrical technology. It provides the ideal grounding and in-depth knowledge of both management techniques and mechanical engineering disciplines.  

This four year Honours degree may also be taken as a three year Ordinary degree, and is offered jointly with our School of Management and Languages.

The programme incorporates a range of courses, including:

  • Mechanical Engineering Science
  • Engineering Mathematics
  • Engineering Design and Manufacture
  • Economics
  • Management
  • Personal Development skills.

In the first and second year, students study two management courses and six engineering courses. In third year, students study four engineering courses and four management courses. In the fourth and final year all eight courses are in engineering.

First year

Students will undertake a number of courses introducing them to the principles of both engineering and management. Engineering subjects include:

  • Mechanical Engineering Science
  • Praxis and Personal Development
  • Engineering Mathematics
  • Design and Manufacture

Students will also study Introductory Management.

Second year

Greater emphasis is applied to Mechanical Engineering Science, and Design and Manufacture. Business courses include Operations Management and Marketing.

Third year

Advanced courses in Mechanical Engineering Science and Design and Manufacture are studied along with Economics, Business Policy and Business Law.

Fourth year

As well as an individual research project students also undertake courses in Engineering Design and Engineering Manufacture and they have the choice of various business modules including Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

Entry requirements

First year entry

  • GCE A-Levels CCC.
  • CBSE or equivalent Minimum of 60% in Grade 12 examinations.
  • American High School Diploma Pass plus SATs with an overall score of 1500.
  • Tawjihiyya 80% with (IELTS 6.0, TOEFL 550/80).
  • International Baccalaureate 24 points or above.
  • Foundation Year Successful completion of Heriot-Watt University Degree Entry Programme (Engineering) with a BBBB. 

Second year entry

  • GCE A-Levels ABB.
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma 27 points.
  • CBSE Overall 85%+ (in relevant subjects)
  • Qualifications must include core subjects of Mathematics and Physics.
  • We will consider equivalent subjects and results from other universities on a case-by-case basis.

Third year entry

  • Successful completion of an HND in a related field of study plus work experience. Please contact us to discuss further.

Additional information

  • Where English was not the medium of instruction at secondary school, applicants must demonstrate English Language proficiency equivalent to IELTS 6.0, TOEFL 550 (paper-based exam); 213 (computer-based exam); 80 (internet-based exam).
