Bachelor of Business Administration BBA (Hons)

Programme information

With the Bachelor of Business Administration particular emphasis is placed upon the knowledge and analytical skills required in business, with the focus upon international management and global issues. Building on core knowledge of business issues, the programme aims to enhance the student’s personal development, team working and presentational skills.

We believe that the real basis for management is experience. We will expose you to theories of management, case studies of companies, and give you the opportunity to work on specific management problems. Organisations have to compete in a global marketplace and their activities cross borders and cultures.

Students who have passed the courses designated as appropriate by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) may be considered for entry into the CIM Professional Postgraduate Diploma.

Developing core knowledge of business issues, the programme also aims to enhance the student’s personal development, team working and presentational skills. Entrepreneurial talent and the ability to recognise and analyse new opportunities will be encouraged and developed.

First year

Students will follow introductory courses in four key subject themes of Accountancy and Finance, Economics and Management. In addition, Psychology is offered as an optional course.

Second year

The key areas of Management are studied and explored in greater depth through Marketing, Human Resource Management and Organisational Behaviour courses. These are complemented by Quantitative Methods, as well as Accounting and Finance options.

Third year

The emphasis changes as student knowledge and skills grow, to international issues through the study of Strategic Management, Project Management and International Strategic Management, and further studies in Marketing, Finance and Accounting options are also available.

Fourth year

Students develop their own interests further by undertaking a business-related dissertation of their choice supported by studies in International and Contemporary Issues in relevant Marketing and Management areas. 

Entry requirements

January intake

The January intake is only open to students who meet all of the following requirements:

  • Transferring from another university
  • Meet the entry requirements for first year entry
  • Carry additional learning or credits of a post-schooling programme that exempts them from the first semester of the programme

First year entry

  • CBSE or equivalent Minimum of 60% in Grade 12 examinations.
  • American High School Diploma Pass plus SATs with an overall score of 1500.
  • GCE A-Level CCC or equivalent.
  • International Baccalaureate 24 points or above.
  • Tawjihiyya 80% (IELTS 6.0, TOEFL 550/213/79). 
  • Foundation Year Successful completion of Heriot-Watt University Degree Entry Programme (Management) with a BBBB.

Second year entry

  • GCE A Levels BBB in relevant subjects
  • International Baccalaureate 27 points
  • CBSE Overall 85%+ (in relevant subjects)
  • Equivalent programme studied at another university. Please contact us to discuss further.
  • The final decision lies with the Programme Director for students applying for an advanced year entry as all aspects of an application need to be reviewed.

Third year entry

  • HND in Business - Merit and Distinction profile.
  • Successful completion of an HND in a related field of study. Please contact us to discuss further.

Additional information

  • Where English was not the medium of instruction at secondary school, applicants must demonstrate English Language proficiency equivalent to IELTS 6.0, TOEFL 550 (paper-based exam); 213 (computer-based exam); 80 (internet-based exam).
