Staying safe

Being a student and exploring a new city or area is a great experience but it is wise to take some basic steps to keep yourself and your belongings safe.

Personal Safety

Student Night Out

Students in Edinburgh can get a free copy of the Safe City Map (pdf) from Student Support and Accommodation. It has lots of information and advice about staying safe.

Alcohol and Drugs

Alcohol and drugs can affect everyone differently. The effects depend on the amount taken, your mood and your surroundings. Some people can suffer a bad reaction to alcohol and drugs. It is important to know what to do if you, or a friend, become ill after drinking too much alcohol or taking drugs. If you are worried that you or your friends are drinking too much or using drugs contact your Hall Warden or Student Support and Accommodation or visit the sites below for further information. Remember the safest option for you is not taking drugs or drinking too much alcohol.

Insure Your Possessions

Remember to lock your room in halls and get extra contents insurance to cover your laptop and other valuables. Endsleigh have an office at the Edinburgh campus.

Advice and Support

For advice, support and information drop in to the Student Union and talk to Neil. He is available every Thursday at the Edinburgh Campus between 5 – 7pm. No appointment necessary.
