Allocation Policy for Edinburgh Campus

The University guarantees all new students (undergraduate and postgraduate) a place in halls in their first year.

What does the guarantee mean?

The guarantee is based on the assumption that the number of applications for residences remains relatively consistent from year to year - please see the disclaimer below. This year has seen a significant increase in applications and therefore regrettably, the University has had to change some of the arrangements. Local residents from Edinburgh will be put on a waiting list and after the closing date of 22nd August 2009 we will contact you to let you know whether there is a room available for you on campus. Direct entrants to undergraduate level year 3 are still guaranteed accommodation but this will be off campus. If you are in either of these groups then please still apply on line for campus accommodation and we will contact you as soon as possible.

The guarantee only applies to those applicants who have an unconditional firm offer of a place at the University and whose application for accommodation has been received through the on line application facility by 22 August 2009 1700 hours GMT.

Under the guarantee, the University can only make one offer of accommodation. The guarantee only applies to students who are prepared to sign a residence agreement for the whole academic year and who will be studying full-time.

Exchange Students

This guarantee does not include students who are on Exchange programmes. An exchange student is a student who has been nominated to participate on an Exchange programme which has been established either through Socrates/Erasmus or between Heriot-Watt University and another institution. However, full year Exchange should still contact the accommodation office by email and may be offered campus places subject to availability. Where this is not possible, advice will be given about finding alternative accommodation.

Special Needs

The University welcomes the applications from students with disabilities and special needs. A number of rooms on campus have been purpose built and are fully accessible. If you have a special need in respect of accommodation, please contact the Disability Adviser.

Disclaimer

Whilst every effort has been made to ensure that the information on this website is correct, facilities and other arrangements for the allocation of accommodation to students described here are subject to change. The University accordingly reserves the right, without notice, to modify as seems appropriate, those arrangements

The University also gives notice that it will not accept liability for any loss or injury sustained by a student whether in connection with his/her studies or not and would suggest that all students seek advice on the adequacy of their insurance cover.
