Heriot-Watt introduced a new academic structure in 2008/9. We changed our academic year from three terms
to two semesters, running for 30 weeks from mid-September to the end of May.
Each semester includes 12 weeks of
classes, with time at the end for revision and
assessment, and you will study four modules
in each semester. Sounds confusing? It’s not.
Modules are the units of study within your
course. Think of them as the building blocks
of your degree – eight in each year. The great
advantage of this modular system is that it
gives you flexibility in your subject choice.
