Neil Fegen, Web Developer

As the Web Developer, I lead the technical development of Heriot-Watt web systems and am the authority on the OpenText Content Management System (CMS) for the University. I am responsible for managing the websites within the CMS, from initial scoping and project setup through to rolling out to users, and creating technical briefs in conjunction with using the CMS.

In addition, I help the team in the following areas: 

  • systems admin
  • design and editing
  • training
  • information architecture
  • usability
  • custom search and search engine optimisation
  • analytics and statistics.

Background

I come from a web background, with an MSc in Information Technology (e-Learning), and having gained experience from working previously as a web editor and for JISC CETIS as a learning technology adviser.
