The web team offers a web design service for all pages and websites within the Content Management System (CMS). Our design service may extend to content or an application outside of the CMS, such as HTML email campaigns, but will be assessed on a case by case basis. The web designer will work closely with the schools and departments offering the best solution to increase the visual appeal and presence of their websites and applications.

The web team can advise on the correct size and format of all images and offer support in sourcing images and graphics via royalty free stock libraries as well as the University image library.

Use of imagery and video/rich media

Imagery is a key component of the Heriot-Watt University website and is used to break up written content to provide relevant visual support to the text.  All imagery should be optimised correctly for the web and alternative text or ‘alt tags’ should be used to conform to current standards of accessibility. Video and rich media is a feature of the Heriot-Watt University website which provides a visual and interactive dimension. There are various options when working with video and the web team can offer support in delivering the best solution.
