Heriot-Watt University Bursary
- Name: Heriot-Watt University Bursary
- Level: Undergraduate (Taught)
- School: All Schools
- Availability: Students from England, Northern Ireland or Wales starting in 2013
Further information
This income-related bursary, of up to £3,000 per year, is available to eligible students from England, Northern Ireland or Wales entering their degree programme at Level 2 to take a three-year Honours degree and to students who received the Foundation Bursary in their first year as they continue into their second and subsequent years. The Heriot-Watt University Bursary is designed to be similar in value and qualifying criteria to the typical packages provided from the National Scholarship Programme in England, and is intended to help and encourage students from lower income backgrounds to choose Heriot-Watt. There are two levels of support depending on household income as assessed by Student Finance England, Northern Ireland or Wales:
- If your residual household income is up to £25,000, you will be eligible for an award of £3,000 per year payment contribution to living costs
- If your residual household income is between £25,001 and £42,600, you will be eligible for an award of £2,000 per year payment contribution to living costs
There is no need to complete an application form as these awards will be made automatically. The payment contribution to living costs will be made by BACS payment.
Students who were awarded a Foundation Bursary in their first year of study will be eligible to be assessed for the full Heriot-Watt University Bursary for their second and subsequent years of study. Fee discounts from the Heriot-Watt Foundation Bursary will be additional to payment contributions to living costs awarded from the Heriot-Watt University Bursary.
We expect that around a quarter of our entrants from England, Northern Ireland and Wales will qualify for the Heriot-Watt University Bursary. It is expected that up to a quarter of undergraduate students will benefit from extra financial support of at least £2,000 per year.
