Lord Thomson was Chancellor of Heriot-Watt University between 1977 and 1991. During this time he conferred degrees upon and personally congratulated more than 10,000 graduates.
Having not attended University himself, the Chancellorship of Heriot-Watt meant a great deal to Lord Thomson. He was a great advocate of education and, for this reason, his family has established the Lord Thomson of Monifieth Scholarship in his memory.
A bursary will be offered to one student who will receive £1,000 each year for four years.
