Further information

Each year, the School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences awards a limited number of scholarships in the form of a reduction in tuition fees of between 10% and 15%.  The scholarships are open to overseas applicants to any of our taught MSc programmes who excel academically or have a financial circumstance which they feel entitles them to a fee reduction award.  The scheme is also open to UK and EU applicants to our MSc in Actuarial Science, MSc in Actuarial Management and MSc in Quantitative Financial Risk Management programmes.  Home/EU applicants to the MSc programmes in Computer Science/Information Technology and in Mathematics, should ask in their applications about funding from the Student Awards Agency Scotland.

To be eligible for consideration of a fee abatement award you should:

  • have submitted an application to any of the MSc programmes in the School except for the MSc in Financial Mathematics as this programme is administered currently by the University of Edinburgh,
  • be classed as an overseas student for tuition fee purposes, OR be an overseas, UK or EU national applying for one of the following programmes - MSc in Actuarial Science, MSc in Actuarial Management and MSc in Quantitative Financial Risk Management,
  • plan to accept the offer of a place by 2nd August 2013,
  • be responsible for paying your own tuition fees ( i.e. not sponsored by a government or company)

The award is given as a tuition fee discount and will be applied to your tuition fee account.

If you meet all of the criteria above and would like to be considered for a fee abatement scholarship, please apply via the scholarship application form on the School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences section of the University’s Scholarship website.  You should provide a statement mentioning your financial circumstances and/or your academic strengths and why you wish to study at Heriot-Watt University.  Your on-line submission of the scholarship application form is routed directly to the School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences.
