Application process
When your application has been received you will be sent an acknowledgement that will contain a unique reference number. Please remember to quote this number if you contact the University about any aspect of your application.
Your application will be forwarded to the appropriate School for a decision. All applications will be carefully considered by appropriate staff.
If you have not submitted any supporting documents with your application the School may contact you to request them.
Offers
The response that you receive from the School will be:
- an unconditional offer
- a conditional offer (further supporting documentation will be required, such as a copy of your degree certificate if you had not completed your degree when you first submitted your application)
- regretfully, a decision to reject your application.
Responding to an offer
If you receive an offer, please respond to it as soon as possible. The University operates a tuition fee advance instalment payment to secure a study place at Heriot-Watt University which is regarded as a first instalment of year 1 tuition fees. This payment will mainly apply to overseas, self-financing, postgraduate applicants receiving a formal offer from the University.
Applicants who wish to study for a postgraduate award and are able to demonstrate that their tuition fees will be paid for by a third party (for example a sponsoring company or government agency) can be exempted from paying the advance instalment at the discretion of their Postgraduate Institute/School.
When you have accepted your place you will be sent a confirmation letter, which you may use to help you obtain an entry visa to the UK, if you need one, or you may use it to help obtain funding. Information about how to register in September will be available during the summer.
