Accommodation for Academic English students

If you are coming to Heriot-Watt University to study Academic English (Pre-sessional or Foundation English) during summer 2013, accommodation may be available on campus where you will find a friendly, welcoming community.

Living on campus, you'll find it easy to get to know people and very convenient: all our excellent facilities are within easy reach, including the Centre for Sport and Exercise, the Student’s Union, the Chaplaincy, a Muslim Prayer room, as well as cafes, lots of catering outlets and a shop. There is also a Health Service and a Dentist. Plus living on campus you will have no utility bills or travel expenses to worry about and you are only minutes from your lectures.

University of Glasgow

Regrettably, students with offers to study on a degree program at Universtiy of Glasgow cannot be offered accommodation at Heriot-Watt University during their Academic English summer course. Please see our off-campus living page for details of alternative accommodation options.

Your accommodation arrangements will differ depending on the length of your course:

3 Week Pre-sessional English Course

Facilities

  • En suite rooms (with private shower room) are available at £29.00 per person per night for bed only or £34.55 per person per night for bed and breakfast.
  • Bed linen is provided.
  • Towels are not provided.
  • Broadband internet and utilities are included in the rent price.
  • Kitchen facilities are not available, however, meals can be purchased at a range of catering outlets on the campus.
  • Payment of your first night's accommodation is required on arrival.

Contract length

  • Your room will be available from 14:00, 10 August to 10:00, 31 August 2013.

Please apply as soon as you have accepted your offer. We aim to accommodate all applicants but if there is an increase in the numbers applying we will allocate on a first come first serve basis.

Arrival information

When you arrive, please report the main University reception with a copy of your accommodation contract or booking confirmation. You will then be given your keys and directions to your hall.

The reception is open between 08:00 to 22:00. Please let us know if you are arriving out with this time.

6 Week or 12 Week Foundation English course

Facilities

Single study bedrooms, self-catered with shared bathroom and kitchen, are priced between £76.20 - £90.60 per week.

  • Shared bathroom and kitchen facilities. (Meals can be purchased at a range of catering outlets on campus if you do not wish to prepare your own meals.)
  • Broadband internet  and utilities are included in the rent price.
  • Bed linen is not provided, but you can pre-order a bedding pack when you make your application. (Bedding pack includes pillow, duvet, pillowcase, duvet cover and sheet and costs £25 per pack.)
  • Towels are not provided.

Contract length

  • 6 week course: your room will be available from 14:00 6 July 2013 to 10:00 17 August 2013.
  • 12 week course: your room will be available from 14:00 25 May 2013 to 10:00 17 August 2013.

How to apply

You must have had an offer and firmly accepted the offer before you can apply. You can apply for accommodation online and follow the link “Foundation English apply for Accommodation”. You will need your person ID (this can be found on your offer letter and starts with H) and date of birth to apply. If your student number is not accepted on the system when you first try, please allow 2 working days and try again. If there is still a problem, please email: halls@hw.ac.uk.

Please apply as soon as you have accepted your offer. We aim to accommodate all applicants but we allocate rooms on a first-come-first-served basis.

Once you have applied, we will email an offer of accommodation to you within 7 days. You should then follow the link on the email to accept the contract online. This should be done within 7 days in order to reserve and confirm the room. No payment is required until after you arrive.

Please be aware this application is for your summer accommodation while you study Foundation English only; to apply for your accommodation from September onwards, you will need to apply again.

Off-campus accommodation

Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that a room will be available for you on campus. We will email you to let you know if this is the case along with details of alternative accommodation options off campus.
