Introduction & club history
The Boxing Club started in 2009.
The club was inducted into the Sports Union officially at the beginning of the 2010/2011 academic year and has now one of the largest memberships.
The club is affiliated to the Scottish Boxing Association which allows students to compete in local, university and national competitions.
Our club charter
We aim to provide the following service to our members:
- To provide an opportunity for any member to practice with the assistance of a coach at each session.
- To provide an opportunity for students to compete for the University in registered events.
- To provide an opportunity for members to gain a worthwhile social experience through the sport.
What does a typical season involve?
Boxing training is very high intensity, including working on Anaerobic/Aerobic training as well as specific technique and safety training.
Sessions aim to push the members to their limit and reach a level of fitness that they would not be able to reach independently. Training is done as a group and in a group session for extra encouragement but due to the varied fitness levels, training is also done in such a way that both high fitness and low fitness levels get pushed to the maximum of their own abilities.
A typical training session involves:
- 15-20 minute warm up
- Light stretch
- 30-40 minute group fitness
- 20-30 minute circuit session
- 30-40 minute abs/calisthenics/technique
Members are expected to work hard but enjoy themselves!
The Club trains in Sports Hall 2 during semester as follows:
- Monday, 3.15–5.15pm
- Wednesday, 4.15–6.15pm
- Friday, 4.15–6.15pm
- Saturday 12.15 - 2.15pm
How do I join the club?
You must be a member of the CSE and then join the club for £15. You can join either at the Sports Centre Reception or online via our new system.
