Introduction & club history

Heriot-Watt badminton club is a very friendly club that has been part of Heriot-Watt since the very start. We have lots of members with a wide variety of abilities. We cater for people from beginner all the way to advanced.

We run two social badminton nights a week for people to come along and play to have fun and meet new people without any pressure on how good you are. Doubles matches are played with plastic shuttles on four courts. Last year we had over 120 members so you are bound to meet new people.

If you want to play more competitively, the club committee run a ropey ladder. You can play against others with similar ability at a time convenient to you. These are singles games, best of three, which are good for really improving your badminton and socialising with other members more. These leagues are open to anyone in the club.

For those advanced players looking for more of a challenge, we have a team that plays in the BUCS league amongst other teams from all over Scotland.

We are always welcoming new members. So please come along on Sundays and Thursdays between 18:15 and 21:15 and join in.

What does a typical season involve?

We run simple social sessions where people come along to play doubles in a relaxing, fun environment.

These are on two nights each week:

  • Thursdays and Sundays from 18:15 - 21:15 in Sports Hall 1

Team training takes place on a Sunday from 5.15 - 6.15pm in Sports Hall 1. This session is for more advanced players only to support the preparation of the team for league matches. Our Badminton coach attends these sessions.

How do I join the club?

Turn up on Sunday or Thursday between 18:15 and 21:15.

There are no special requirements. You get first session for free then club membership costs £5 on top of the sports centre fees. You can pay the fee either at the Sports Centre reception or via our new online system.
