Whether you are looking to take part in Rio 2016 or you just want to improve your fitness here in Edinburgh, our gym facilities are here to help you achieve your goals.

Staff are on hand to give you advice on all the machines to help you get the most out of your workout.

CV Zone

Our fully air-conditioned cardiovascular gym is equipped with:

  • cross-trainers
  • treadmills
  • exercise bikes
  • rowing machines

Life Fitness Virtual Trainer

Life Fitness Virtual Trainer is an online training system that is available on all the Life Fitness treadmills and bikes that in the CV Zone.

The system allows you to:

  • design and save a workout on your own USB stick
  • track your exercise progress
  • monitor your saved workouts on the Life Fitness Virtual Trainer website

The system will guide you through how to make, save and monitor your workout. Once you’ve saved your workout routine, you can insert your USB stick into a fitness machine and it will automatically start your programme for you.

Conditioning Gym

  • fixed weights
  • cable machines
  • an arm bike (ideal for injury rehabilitation and wheelchair users)

Strength & Conditioning Centre

Funded by sportscotland, the Strength & Conditioning Centre is used by a number of squads, including Heart of Midlothian Football Club, Scottish Squash, East of Scotland Institute of Sport and Scottish Institute of Sport. However, we aim to ensure that there is always an area available for our individual members.

The centre is equipped with:

  • 6 state of the art multi-purpose Powerlift™ platforms, which can accommodate a range of exercises, including Olympic and multi-joint barbell lifts, bench press, chins and dips
  • squat cages
  • flat benches
  • incline benches
  • barbells
  • dumbbells from 1kg to 45kg

There is no direct supervision in the Strength & Conditioning Centre, so only accredited users are allowed access. The 30-minute accreditation process requires you to demonstrate competency using the equipment and, therefore, prior experience of training with free weights is required. If you have not used free weights before, you can book an induction appointment to receive coaching.
