Infrastructure & transport

Our Infrastructure and Transport theme brings together the disciplines of civil engineering, urban and regional planning, construction management and economics. Together, these provide a critical mass of internationally recognised expertise in infrastructure design, procurement and management from the micro to the macro scale.

Addressing global challenges

Our integrated, multi-disciplinary approach places us in an excellent position to address the increasingly global dimensions of the challenge. We are working on design, technology, management and policy relevant to critical aspects of the built environment, infrastructure and transport, and are developing the knowledge necessary to deliver sustainable urbanisation.

Practical expertise

Experts in Structural Engineering are investigating corrosion damage, concrete structures and life cycle management of infrastructure, while our Materials and GeoMechanics group are leading the way in building understanding of cementitious materials, sensor technology and railway engineering.

Our Logistics Research Centre (LRC), established in 1998, is one of the main centres in the UK for research on freight transport and logistics.
