Research Gateway
Heriot-Watt University produces a large volume of research results every year mostly in the form of journal publications but also reports, patents, exhibitions, etc. Much of this research is publicly funded and the university is keen that the results and outcomes are freely available to specialists, collaborators and the public at large in a timely way unless some commercial or other confidentiality applies. The University supports the national open access agenda for publications and our policy is to provide easy access to the full text of publications whenever publishers' copyright restrictions permit.
Research output
The new Heriot Watt Research Gateway is a portal which allows access to all of the university's research outputs. These can be accessed via a search on the names of individuals or via the schools, research institutes, research centres or research pools identified in the portal.
We are working towards listing all Heriot-Watt University research outputs including those of former members of staff - over 26,000 outputs are currently listed in the Research Gateway. Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) are listed where available to give direct access to publishers' archives and downloadable pdf versions of publications will be available via open access from the Gateway in future.
