Gown Hire and Photography

An academic robe and hood must be obtained from Ede and Ravenscroft Ltd and is a requirement if you wish to attend the ceremony. All gown hire arrangements and payments must be made directly with Ede and Ravenscroft Ltd. You can access their website at http://www.gownhire.co.uk or telephone them on +44 (0)1223 861854, Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 5.00pm.

Note: All gowns must be returned to the Hugh Nisbet Building.

Please note that the University is not responsible for the hiring of robes or the return of robes after the ceremonies. If the weather is wet, graduates are requested not to wear hoods in the rain.

Gown hire

Graduands should hire/purchase the gown and hood appropriate to the Degree, Diploma or Certificate awarded (see tables below).

Gown for all Taught Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates:

Gowns for Postgraduate Research degrees:

• Doctor of Philosophy (PhD): Magenta with open sleeves
• Master of Philosophy (MPhil): Black with long closed sleeves

Academic dress information for graduation ceremonies

Form of Dress at Graduation: Formal

• Women: dark skirt/dress/trouser suit, white/dark blouse
• Men: dark suit/trousers, white shirt, dark tie

Academic or regimental ties are permitted, and National Dress may be worn.

Photography

Success Photography will be available in the Cedar rooms in the Hugh Nesbit Building with a number of photographic studios to take professional individual and family photographs to help mark your special day. By pre ordering online you will save yourself time on graduation day.

We suggest you come along for your photographs before your ceremony if possible, or after the reception.
