Heriot-Watt's industry collaborations showcasedDate:
Heriot-Watt's 2012 Industry Day proved to be a huge success, with representatives from academia, industry and research centres coming from across the UK and beyond to discuss the future of advanced sensor technology.
Bringing researchers and industry experts together
This is the kind of conference we need more of. Bringing university researchers and industry experts together in this way is vital to ensure joined up thinking across the boardDr Dan Georgi, Baker Hughes Technology Fellow
The event, held at the Edinburgh Conference Centre on 9 February, showcased Heriot-Watt's ambitious commitment to collaborate with industry in research and knowledge transfer. By bringing together delegates and speakers from a range of sectors – which this year included biomedical, defence, geophysical and petroleum, amongst others – the event highlighted the huge success we have so far had in developing new technologies, creating spin-out companies and increasing the placement opportunities available to our students.
Speaking at the event was Dr Dan Georgi, a Baker Hughes Technology Fellow whose presentation, "Measurements and Sensor Exploration and Production", took delegates through the wide range of complex sensors available. Having flown in from Texas, Dr Georgi commented after the event "This is the kind of conference we need more of. Bringing university researchers and industry experts together in this way is vital to ensure joined up thinking across the board."
Professor Alan Miller added "What an impressive day this has been. The breadth and scope of topics covered has allowed us to interact with companies which, perhaps, would not normally have thought about working with a University."
Further information on the day can be found at www.hw.ac.uk/industryday, and additional downloads including speaker presentations and the event brochure will be available from there soon.
