Two weeks left to complete the NSS

Date:

With only a fortnight to go until the 30th April deadline for NSS 2013 the University currently have an overall response rate of 77.1%.

However, there are still around 290 NSS eligible students who have not yet responded - and just 38 more responses would take our participation rate to 80%, which would be a fantastic achievement!

Response Rates by Department / Discipline

We are continuing to see increases among this year's "late bloomers" – Management at SBC has leaped ahead to 79% participation (up from 68% last week), Chemical Engineering has reached 81%, Mechanical Engineering has reached 74%, Accountancy & Finance has reached 73% and Textiles & Design has reached 72%, whilst responses from Combined Studies (EPS) have reached 53% and those from HWU students at West London College have reached 52%.

However, there have been no further responses this week from students in Combined Studies in SML (60% participation) or Computer Science (67% participation).

Responses by Subject Area

In terms of the results by Subject Area, which is the basis for the published tables, we have met the minimum thresholds for publication in 20 of the 22 Subject Areas – based on our current response rates, we would not be able to publicise our results for the following subject areas:

  • Management Studies is 2 short of its threshold (with 7 non-respondents remaining out of the population of 28)
  • Others in Physical Sciences is 4 short of the threshold (with 6 non-respondents remaining out of the population of 25)

Incentives / Prize Draws

NSS eligible students in the following departments, all of which have a response rate of over 70%, will be entered into the prize draw for their school for £100 graduation ball tickets / cash: Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management & Surveying, Urban Studies, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, EECE, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Biology, Psychology, Sport & Exercise Science, Accountancy & Finance, Economics, Languages, Management, Actuarial Maths & Statistics, Mathematics and Textiles.

As it currently stands, students in the following departments will not be entered into the prize draw: Combined Studies in EPS (53%), Combined Studies in SML (60%) and Computer Science (67%).

In addition, NSS eligible students in any department which reaches a 60% response rate will automatically receive a £10 print quota – the only department not to have reached this milestone yet is Combined Studies in the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences.
