The winners of the Spirit of Heriot-Watt Awards 2010 have been announced at an event hosted by the Principal in the Postgraduate Centre and attended by staff members, representatives from the Student Association and the University Court.
40 shortlisted finalists for the Awards were acknowledged for their contribution to the University and winners in five categories, were announced:
Valuing and Respecting Everyone
Margaret Stobie – Deputy Facilities Manager, School of Life Sciences
Alan Forster – Lecturer School of Built Environment
Margaret Austin – Research Grants Officer, Finance
Pride and Belonging
Jacqui Baird – Hospitality Services
Shaping the Future
The Technicians Team – School of Textiles and Design

The Awards were the centrepiece of this year’s launch of the University’s Values. They linked to the top three university-wide staff survey actions, namely valuing and respecting everyone. 170 nominations were received in all covering all staff groups and from across our campuses in Edinburgh, the Scottish Borders and Dubai.
The Principal said “These Awards have been a resounding success. I was proud to launch our Values in spring of this year and to see the range of fantastic nominations for those members of staff who take these Values to the heart of their work. The awards have demonstrated that our Values help make us the kind of inspiring institution we are. I’m already looking forward to acknowledging members of staff who have gone that extra mile in 2011”.
