The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Aberdeen Section has announced it is now accepting applications for its 2012-2013 student bursary programme.
Current undergraduate and postgraduate students attending Dundee, Heriot-Watt, Robert Gordon and Aberdeen universities who study oil and gas industry-related courses are invited to apply for the bursaries.
A total of £15,000 is available through four top awards of £2500 and a further 20 awards of £250. All applicants must be registered student members of SPE International.
Anthony Onukwu, chairman of the SPE Aberdeen section said: “It is vital that we continue to provide as much support as we can for our student members. By awarding these bursaries, it should ease some financial pressures and allow the winners to focus on advancing their learning.
“We are committed to giving our student members every opportunity to obtain the technical skills and academic foundation that will be invaluable to them when they graduate and embark on their careers in the oil and gas industry.”
Previous students who received the bursaries were Abayomi Obisesan (Aberdeen University), Suryansh Sinha (Heriot Watt University), Simon Fox (RGU) and Radhakrishnan Puthiyedath (RGU), who were presented with the top awards of £2500 at last year’s awards ceremony.
Suryansh, who is studying for a Masters in Petroleum Engineering at Heriot Watt University, said: “It was a landmark achievement for me to win this highly coveted award in the oil capital of Europe. Being a part of SPE continues to give me enormous benefits, like an awareness of technology and networking within the industry.
“I feel encouraged to continue contributing to SPE, and working towards the growth of the oil and gas industry. I am sure that SPE will carry on playing an important role in my own personal growth and development.”
Visit the SPE Aberdeen website for an application form. The deadline for applications is March 31, with bursary awards being made at the end of April.
