With three weeks to go until the 30 April deadline for NSS 2013 we currently have an overall response rate of 75.8%, a very healthy improvement on the rate at this time last year (73.3%).
However, there are still over 300 NSS eligible students who have not yet responded.
Response Rates by Department / Discipline
There have been some significant movements since last week:
- Mechanical Engineering (70%), Physics (74%, up from 53% last week), Accountancy & Finance (71%), Management (73%) and Textiles & Design (71%) have all achieved over 70% participation
- Urban Studies and Sport & Exercise Science remain in first place, both with 100% participation
- Chemistry remains in third place with a response rate of 92%
In all, 12 departments have now already met or exceeded their final response rate of last year (Biology, Sport & Exercise Science, Physics, EECE, Management, Languages, Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management & Surveying, Urban Studies, Computer Science and Actuarial Maths & Statistics), however there are still some departments that are lagging behind in comparison to their performance last year:
- Chemical Engineering 79% v 97% last year (and 97% final)
- EPS Combined Studies 47% v 60% last year (and 67% final)
- Textiles & Design 71% v 74% last year (and 75% final)
- Mathematics 81% v 84% last year (and 87% final)
Responses by Subject Area
In terms of the results by Subject Area, which is the basis for the published tables, we have met the minimum thresholds for publication in 20 of the 22 Subject Areas – the addition to this group since last week is Marketing
Based on our current response rates, we would not be able to publicise our results for the following subject areas:
- Management Studies is 2 short of its threshold (with 7 non-respondents remaining out of the population of 28)
- Others in Physical Sciences is 5 short of the threshold (with 7 non-respondents remaining out of the population of 25)
