With less than a week to go until the midnight Tuesday 30 April deadline for NSS 2013 Heriot-Watt has an overall response rate of 78.5%.
However, there are still around 270 NSS eligible students who have not yet responded - and just 19 more responses would take our participation rate to 80%, which would be a fantastic achievement and is likely to put Heriot-Watt in the top five for university participation rates.
Response Rates by Department / Discipline
We are continuing to see increases in some subject areas especially Combined Studies in EPS, which has leaped ahead to 73% participation (up from 53% last week) and Computer Science, which has jumped to 78% (up from 67%); there have also been increases in Chemical Engineering (83%, up from 81%), Physics (79%, up from 74%), Management (74%, up from 73%) and West London College (61%, up from 52%).
However, there have been no further responses this week from students in Combined Studies in SML (60% participation).
Incentives / Prize Draws
NSS eligible students in departments which have a response rate of over 70% will be entered into the prize draw for their school for £100 graduation ball tickets / cash – this week, Combined Studies in EPS (73%) and Computer Science (78%) have reached this milestone and will be entered in the draws, along with students from Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management & Surveying, Urban Studies, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, EECE, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Biology, Psychology, Sport & Exercise Science, Accountancy & Finance, Economics, Languages, Management, Actuarial Maths & Statistics, Mathematics and Textiles.
As it currently stands, only students in Combined Studies in SML (60%) are still not eligible for the prize draw – they only need another three respondents (with 12 non-respondents remaining out of the population of 30).
In addition, NSS eligible students in any department which reaches a 60% response rate will automatically receive a £10 print quota – this milestone was reached by Combined Studies in EPS this week, so students should receive the additional print quota later this week; all departments have now reached 60% participation.
