Former colleagues were saddened to hear of the passing of John Hughes who died after a short illness on 7 December. John worked at Heriot-Watt for 11 years as a driver until his retirement in 1986. John was a driver on the mail run vehicle based in the Grassmarket and so regularly visited all parts of the University. He also drove the shuttle bus into Edinburgh town centre before buses serviced Riccarton Campus. Having an engineering background John took a keen interest in the research taken place on campus. His nephew Steven Ritch, a technician in Built Environment, remembers him talking fondly of the many colleagues he met on his rounds.
