The Institute for Infrastructure and Environment holds its final seminar of the academic year on Monday 1 July at 1:15pm in William Arrol Building 3.11, Edinburgh Campus.
Visiting speaker Dr. Weiming Wu of the University of Mississippi will present his research on Recent Advances in Dam/Levee Breach Modeling, giving insight into how understanding and prediction of dam/levee failure processes are crucial for water infrastructure management. In the last decades, Du. Wu has been involved in a number of laboratory experiments and field investigations which have been carried out. Many parametric, simplified and detailed physically-based dam/levee breach models have been developed to understand and simulate the earthen dam/levee breaching processes. This presentation will introduce recent development of detailed 1-D/2-D/3-D and simplified physically-based dam/levee breach models in the speaker’s research group, and briefly review other recent models in literature.
Dr. Weiming Wu is now a Research Faculty member at the National Center for Computational Hydroscience and Engineering (NCCHE), The University of Mississippi, USA, and will become a Professor at Clarkson University, Potsdam, NY, USA.
The seminar will be held in WA 3.11 on Monday 1 July from 1.15 – 2.15pm. Pizza and refreshments will be available for attendees.
