The University is committed to improving staff engagement and continuing to keep Heriot-Watt University as a great place to work. In support of that, the Flexible Working procedure has been updated to:
• allow all staff to make a request for flexible working, rather than restrict eligibility to parents and carers
• cover those staff wishing to take flexible retirement under the University's pension schemes
Full details are in the Policy and Procedures which can be found on the Human Resource web pages.
Flexible Retirement
As you are aware, following the removal of the default retirement age, there is no set date or age at which employees are required to retire. All the pension schemes which the University operates have now made it possible to take flexible retirement, ie reduce to part-time working for a period prior to retirement, subject to pension scheme conditions and employer consent. The Flexible Working Policy and Procedures now outline the process for taking flexible retirement.
Early Retirement
Employees can fully retire before their pension scheme's normal pension age in line with pension scheme rules and in some cases, employer consent.
For more information about pension scheme conditions, please contact Liz Smith, Payroll Manager.
