The following changes will be made to the Wi-Fi services for staff and students on the Edinburgh Campus effective from Monday 19 August 2013.
The hw-web wireless service will be retired on Monday 19 August 2013.
eduroam
From Monday 19 August 2013 the primary wireless service for all Heriot-Watt staff and students will be eduroam.
The benefits of using eduroam include:
• It's more secure
• Better bandwidth speeds
• Access to Heriot-Watt University library resources
• Access to Wi-Fi printing services
• You can visit other eduroam-enabled institutes and connect to eduroam using your Heriot-Watt credentials
Existing users should configure their devices to use the eduroam service before the 19th of August 2013.

New wireless network
A new wireless network called HWU Wi-Fi Setup will be available from Monday 19 August to assist new users connect to eduroam. All new students and members of staff should choose HWU Wi-Fi Setup when trying to connect their device to the wireless service for the first time.
Login and password
Use your Heriot-Watt short username and password to login to eduroam (the same login details that you use for Vision, the university desktop PCs and your university email).
Remember to include the @hw.ac.uk (abc123@hw.ac.uk)
Guest
The Guest Wi-Fi service will become HWU_Guest on the 19th of August 2013.
The process to create a username and password for this service will remain the same (temporary usernames and passwords can be requested from the IT Helpdesk, from most academic school computing officers and some academic school administrators and secretaries.
