The University is working with the British Heart Foundation (BHF) to collect unwanted items from staff and students.
Heriot-Watt is one of three universities, including Edinburgh Napier and the University of Edinburgh, involved in the campaign to encourage both staff and students to raid their wardrobes and any items that are no longer wanted.
BHF Shops are always in need of clothing, shoes, accessories, CDs, DVDs, books, kitchenware and small electricals.
David Jack, Environment and Energy Manager at Heriot-Watt University said: “This is the perfect opportunity for our students to be both charitable and environmentally friendly with their unwanted items. We hope that all our students and staff take advantage of this convenient new service by having a clear out and donating their unwanted items.”
Catherine Argyle, Regional Stock Generator at the BHF commented: “We’re excited to be working alongside these Edinburgh Universities to encourage students to donate their unwanted goods to us. This scheme will be a huge help to our Shops in the Edinburgh area and I’d like to encourage students to get involved and support the new scheme. Coronary heart disease is the UK’s single biggest killer, shattering the lives of too many children, parents and grandparents - you can join the fight for every heartbeat by having a clear out and using the new facilities to donate your unwanted things.”
How to donate
Three donation banks are now located on the Edinburgh Campus:
- Behind the Hugh Nisbet Building
- Outside Robin Smith Hall
- Outside Lord Home Hall
Donation wheelie bins will also be located around the Campus - more information to follow about this. Donation bags will be distributed to students to encourage donation fo unwanted items before the end of term. Staff can request bags by contacting recycle@hw.ac.uk.
