The idea that the creation and circulation of information content requires engineering skills is new, but the explosive expansion of the Internet and the growing digitisation of all forms of information is generating a need for agreement on 'best practice' guidelines and standards. Information Engineering is of importance to all who are enagaged in the information business, whether they are traditional publishers on paper or on-line, 'new media' publishers, information providers within companies to customers or internal staff or suppliers of related systems and services."
