Library services for Visitors and External Members

  • External Borrowers may not borrow textbooks and other items which are in heavy demand by Heriot-Watt students.  You may borrow Standard Loan books and periodicals, but copies of heavily-used student texts in the Week Loan category may only be used in the Library, and 3 Hour Loans may not be used by External Borrowers.

  • Self-service photocopiers are available in the Library; copies may be made after purchasing a pre-payment card in the Library.

  • External Members may use the Inter-Library Loan Service to request items not held in the Library.  There is a minimum charge of £20.00 per item.

  • The University is a member of the EduRoam service; visitors from other member institutions can logon to the University's wireless network using their "home" institution username and password.

  • Licence restrictions mean that visitors to the Library may not use certain networked resources, e.g. databases and electronic journals to which the University subscribes, as their use is restricted to staff and students of Heriot-Watt University.
