Discovery search allows Heriot-Watt University students and staff to find books, journals, journal articles, reports, electronic books, market reports, newspaper articles etc easily and quickly using a single search box. Find articles and papers from over 50,000 journals and 20,000 conferences.
- Limit results to full text or peer reviewed
- Sort by relevance or date
- Retrieve full-text results in HTML and/or PDF formats
- Save results for offline access at a later date

ACS Mobile App
Mobile App: Download ACS Mobile at the Apple iTunes Store and the Android Market.
- Access to new ACS ASAP Articles, personalized across the entire portfolio of 39 peer-reviewed ACS Journals.
- An indexed list of more than 35,000 research articles published annually, complete with graphical and text abstracts.
- A feed of the "Latest News" from Chemical & Engineering News Online.
- Interface to full-text article access (via wireless or Virtual Private Networks (VPN)) for users at institutions that subscribe to ACS Journals.

The Emerald app is available for the iPhone, the iPod Touch and the iPad. Currently there is not an Android app. Download from Itunes.

Search journals, conference proceedings and standards, and view all search results. You can also refine your search using multiple facets for more targeted results. Scroll to the bottom of the search results page to view the selections.
JSTOR

Search using the mobile site and email the citations to yourself so you can read the articles later on a computer. Zoom in to see pages if you are using a network recognized as having access to JSTOR and your phone supports zooming. JSTOR Mobile works on iOS, Android, and BlackBerry devices.
RSC Mobile app for iOS (iPad, iPhone and iPod) and Android
RSC Mobile provides readers with access to search more than 30 RSC journals from the RSC Publishing Platform.

ScienceDirect

To register in the SciVerse ScienceDirect iPhone app you will need to provide your username and password as registered at sciencedirect.com. To access the full spectrum of content, you will need to register online within your library's network.

The mobile version has the ability to search within individual products (Web of Science, Biosis, Inspec, etc.), as well as, the All Databases Search.Other features include: sort, refine, email, add records to EndNote® Web, link to full text, OpenURL, view times cited counts, citation score card, search history.

Book search
Mobile app: Available for the iPhone and Android
The iphone and android app allow you to scan a book's barcode and check its availability at Heriot-Watt Library.
- Lecturers – if you are recommending a book to students, these apps are a quick and easy way of checking if it’s in the library.
- Students – ZBar can email you a link to information about the book you are reading, which could be useful for keeping a record of your research.
You can also use this app to check the cost of books in online bookshops like amazon, e.g., if you are thinking about purchasing your own copy of a useful library book.
Dropbox is a free service that lets you bring all your photos, docs, and videos anywhere. This means that any file you save to your Dropbox will automatically save to all your computers, phones and the Dropbox website.
Evernote lets you take notes, capture photos, create to-do lists, record voice reminders
