Joining the Library
Heriot-Watt students
You register as members of the library as part of the University
enrolment process. The barcode on your Student ID card allows you to
borrow from the Library.
- New students - you may borrow from the Library once you have
collected your ID card at the Enrolment Event.
- Returning students -
you may borrow from the day after you have completed enrolment for
the current academic year. If you do not have an ID card, you should
contact your School to find out the arrangements for obtaining one.
Heriot-Watt staff
Bring a Staff ID card (available from
Human Resources) to the
Service Desk in the Library and fill in a Staff Registration Card.
Edinburgh College of Art - Staff & students
Staff and students of the Edinburgh College of Art may register with
the University Library and have the same borrowing entitlements as
Heriot-Watt staff and students. Bring your ECA ID card to the
Service Desk, where the staff will register you as a borrower. Ask
at the Service Desk for further information.
Staff & students of other UK universities & colleges
Heriot-Watt belongs to the
SCONUL Access scheme, which allows access
and/or borrowing to staff and students of most UK Universities and
many Colleges. If you have been issued with a SCONUL Access card by
your University or College, bring it to the Service Desk, where the
staff will register you if you are eligible for borrowing. Check the
SCONUL Access scheme website for more details about the
scheme, and
to check whether your institution is a member of the scheme.
Visitors/External membership
All visitors to the University are welcome to visit the Library. We
offer various
services to visitors, including an External Borrower
service. Please ask for more details from the Service Desk.
