Inter Library Loan services for individuals

We are unable to accept Inter Library Loan requests from individuals who are not registered borrowers of the Library.  If you wish to request a loan of an item held in Heriot-Watt University Library, please contact your own Library's Inter Library Loan service.

 

Institutions within the UK and the Republic of Ireland

We lend items and provides photocopies to other UK and Republic of Ireland libraries on standard British Library terms.  We also accept CONARLS requests.  We are willing to lend most items, with the exception of:

  • Books in heavy demand (3 Hour Loan; Week Loan)
  • Reference books
  • Journal parts or volumes
  • theses

We accept requests by e-mail or post. Please quote your BL account number and your request number.

Institutions outwith the UK and the Republic of Ireland

We lend items and provide photocopies to libraries outwith the UK and the Republic of Ireland.  We accept requests by e-mail or post.  We will send photocopies by post.  We are willing to lend most items, with the exception of:

  • Books in heavy demand (3 Hour Loan; Week Loan)
  • Reference books
  • Journal parts or volumes
  • Theses

All items are loaned for use in the library only and not for home reading.  Items should be returned by airmail.

Our preferred method of payment is IFLA vouchers, but we can invoice you if required.

Heriot-Watt University Theses

We do not lend theses or dissertations. 

Digital copies of PhD theses submitted from 2008/2009 are available from Research Output Service (ROS) - Heriot-Watt's institutional repository.  We hope to add older PhD theses to the Archive in due course.

For older PhD theses which are not available in ROS, please apply to the British Library Electronic Theses Online Service (EThOS).

For other theses and dissertations, you may purchase a paper copy from us.  Please contact ServiceDesk@hw.ac.uk for details.
