Help with your subject

In person:
Your Subject Librarian is an expert in the information resources in your subject area.  These librarians provide information services to a School or group of subjects.  They can advise you on the use of electronic and printed information sources, which you can use to find useful information for projects, essays, dissertations or theses.  They can advise you of any special arrangements made with your School to provide you with information services.  If the electronic and printed information sources they recommend do not give you the information you need for your projects or dissertations, they can advise you on other options which may be open to you.  They can be contacted by e-mail or phone, or in person if you visit the University.

Library web pages:
Our web pages give the most comprehensive information about the Library and its services.  The services which we offer or subscribe to sometimes change, so it is worth checking our pages regularly to see if there is anything new of interest to you.  In particular, if anything changes concerning our services to distance learning students, these Distance Learning Support pages are updated.

For the most recent news about all Library services, see InformS - the Library blog.

Library Guides on your subject:
The Library produces a series of guides designed to inform students of the most useful printed and electronic resources in the subjects taught and researched at Heriot-Watt.

Help with computing & IT

All Distance Learning Students may register with IT.  This will give you your official Heriot-Watt e-mail address and your Heriot-Watt ID (username and password) to access email, Vision and Library electronic resources.  Registration with IT also gives you access to the on-campus computing facilities if you visit in person.

If you need help with IT problems, your Heriot-Watt ID or login contact IThelp@hw.ac.uk.

Help with VISION

VISION is Heriot Watt's virtual learning environment.  If your course or module is delivered using VISION you will access it using your Heriot Watt email login.  If you need help with a technical problem with VISION,  email IT in the first instance.
