Distance Learning Support - First Steps

Getting Started
You don't need to do anything to join the Library - all students are automatically registered as members. Your University ID card is also your Library card. You will see a barcode printed on your ID card - you will need to use the number printed below the barcode to use some of our services. If you have not received an ID card, please contact the administrator of your course.
You will also need your University e-mail login details to get access to some services. If you haven't received your e-mail login or information on how to get an email login, please contact the administrator of your course. If you need help using the University e-mail system, IThelp@hw.ac.uk.
Visiting the Library
We look forward to seeing you in the Library if you do visit the University. Remember to bring your student ID card with you.
You will find information about the Library on our web pages, including

Using the Library from off campus
The Library provides access to hundreds of databases and thousands of electronic journals - all available to you from off campus.
You can access these through the Library catalogue, A-Z Journals list or databases pages. You can also use our Discovery service to cross search the majority of these resources. You can access Discovery on the Library homepage.
You will be prompted to login to access our electronic books, journals, databases and Discovery. Login using your Heriot-Watt ID (the username and password you use for Heriot-Watt email or for Vision). For more information on logging in see our blog post.
See our off-campus access page for more information or, if you have difficulty accessing any resources, please contact your Subject Librarian.
