Information Services is a new directorate created in response to the Secretary's 2010 Review of the University's Professional Services.

The review recommended the formation of an integrated Library and IT directorate, whose integrated services should produce benefits, including:

  • A single vision, a unified mission and joint planning of the IT and Library services that underpin the delivery of teaching & learning, e-learning, distance learning & research.
  • Joint working between the Library and IT to deliver integrated services for students, academics and other colleagues. The Library, the primary student-facing facility, would become the principal service delivery location for IT services.
  • A single point of contact for issues and problems that involve both Library & IT services.
  • The successful deployment as key stakeholders working together of critical academic information systems, including the VLE/student portal and an Institutional Research Repository,
  • More efficient and effective services, representing enhanced value for money.
