Authentication and linking
EZProxy

Most Library resources use a system called EZProxy to authenticate users and allow access to subscribed materials.

Links in Vision to these materials should always have the EZProxy prefix

http://ezproxy1.hw.ac.uk:2048/login?url=

e.g.

http://ezproxy1.hw.ac.uk:2048/login?url=http://dx.doi.org/10.1111/j.1467-8586.2009.00321.x

where http://dx.doi.org/10.1111/j.1467-8586.2009.00321.x  is the URL for the item to be accessed.

The login used with EZProxy is the individual's Heriot Watt University ID and is only required if accessing outside the campus network.

Shibboleth / UK Access Management Federation

The Library resources listed below use a method of authenticate called Shibboleth or UK Access Management Federation.

ESDS (Economic and Social Data Service)
Census.ac.uk

Links to these resources can be found on the Library databases.

These resources do not need an EZproxy prefix - as described above.

The login used with Shibboleth is the individual's Heriot Watt University ID.

When using links to Shibboleth authenticated resources in Vision, please ensure the link opens in a new window to avoid an authentication error.

Resource usernames and passwords

A small number of Library resources do not use EZproxy or Shibboleth authentication but instead have individual logins. See the list of these resources plus logins for more information.
