Business Development Executive - Ref 13/10/W

We are seeking a dynamic individual to build income generating partnerships with business, promoting the value of enterprise and business collaborations to university staff, and identifying opportunities to develop knowledge transfer income from a range of sources. Responsible for stimulating innovative projects you will also facilitate cross-disciplinary collaborations in the university.  As a member of the Business Development team within Technology and Research Services, you will be located in the School of Management and Languages.  

With a relevant degree, you’ll also have experience in either industry or Higher Education. Excellent communication skills, are essential and you will have some  business development or research funding experience.

Executive Secretary and Centre Manager - Ref 19/10/W

The International Centre for Mathematical Sciences (ICMS) is a joint venture of Heriot-Watt University and the University of Edinburgh and aims to promote and develop the mathematical sciences (see http://www.icms.org.uk/ ).

We are looking for someone with several years experience of managing people, budgets and resources and a track-record of implementing new projects and managing change.  The post also requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills as ICMS staff must build and maintain relationships with mathematicians and scientists from all over the world.  No knowledge of higher mathematics is required.

This is an exciting opportunity to be a key member of an unusual and highly-rated collaborative project and to influence the future growth and direction of ICMS.

It has four student campuses in Edinburgh, the Scottish Borders, Orkney and Dubai.

We are implementing a strategy for growth and change, “Focus on the Future”. The intention is to place the University at the forefront of research and research-led education in the UK and internationally; to grow the academic base by 50% over the next 10 years.

The People and Organisational Development Team, comprising of Academic Enhancement, Organisational and Staff Development and HR Strategy & Services, is developing its strategy to align to the University’s objectives.

As a member of the HR team you will be working proactively with leaders and managers across the full range of human resources initiatives to find people solutions that suit their needs.

You should be fully CIPD qualified and able to demonstrate substantial and relevant professional experience using internal consultancy/Business Partner working models. Excellent interpersonal, time management and problem solving skills are essential, as is the ability to show attention to detail. PC literacy and a sound knowledge of employment law are also essential.

We would particularly welcome candidates who can also demonstrate practical experience in talent management and succession planning or developing and analysing metrics on a broad range of key performance indicators.

The post is fixed term, initially for a period of 9 months starting in April 2010.

Learning & Teaching Administrator - Ref 23/10/W

Providing high quality, professional support for the School’s Learning & Teaching activities, you will work closely with the School’s Director of Learning & Teaching, other members of the School Management Team, and will report to the School’s Director of Administration (Student Services). 

You will be highly motivated, educated to at least degree level, have several years experience of working in Higher Education (preferably in a Learning & Teaching support role) and be able to demonstrate excellent organisational, IT, interpersonal and communication skills. 

In addition experience of timetabling would be an advantage.
